The Brooklyn Nets are trading DeAndre Jordan, along with four second-round picks and $5.78 million to the Detroit Pistons Jahlil Okafor and Sekou Doumbouya. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pistons are planning to buy out the two years and $20 million left on Jordan’s contract.
The deal will effectively be a huge salary dump for the Nets, who will save $47 million in salary with the deal. That means Jordan will likely soon be a free agent free to sign with whomever he wants, though the Los Angeles Lakers are considered the frontrunners.
The Nets had signed Jordan to a four-year deal worth $40 million in 2019. He was meant to be a complimentary piece of the puzzle to support Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. At the time, it was reported that both Durant and Irving took less money in order to make sure that the Nets could sign Jordan.
In his two seasons with Brooklyn, the 33-year-old averaged 7.9 points and 8.7 rebounds in 21.9 minutes per game, a drop-off from his peak years with the Los Angeles Clippers.
