For a long time, Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has been considered one of the top players in his high school recruiting class, consistently ranking among the top 50 or 100 players in the 2023 class. However, he hasn’t always been viewed as a potential one-and-done sort of player that could play in the NBA just one season removed from high school. But that’s changing.
As NBA Draft analyst Krysten Peek of Yahoo! Sports explains, she’s seen some massive improvement in Bronny James in his final season of high school basketball. First and foremost, she sees Bronny as a much-improved athlete.
“He’s now doing eastbay dunks in a fast-break situation,” Peek said of Bronny’s athleticism. “Are you kidding me? Where did this Bronny James come from? Because he’s always been a great three-point shooter. He’s one of the best on-ball defenders, I think, in his senior class. I don’t think we talk about Bronny’s defense enough.”
But one of the biggest improvements has been Bronny’s read on the pick and roll. And she thinks this is a skill that LeBron James has helped him develop to prepare him for the NBA.
“That is something that I know he’s getting from pops, from his dad. Because that is not a skill you learn at the high school level,” Peek said.
LeBron has made it clear many times that he wants to play with Bronny in the NBA before he retires. And it sure sounds like he’s preparing Bronny to do just that.
