The NBA world isn’t in agreement that Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic should have been named league MVP.
Many NBA experts and NBA fans are upset that he won the award and thought that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder should have won the award.
On Thursday’s episode of ESPN’s Get Up, Andraya Carter made a case for SGA.
Carter’s case is that Alexander led the league’s youngest team to the No. 1 seed in the West while averaging 30 points per game. He was also third in points per game, first in 30-point games, and tied for first in steals per game.
“It’s not even close,” says Carter. “I think it’s an MVP season.”
After he was awarded MVP, Jokic said that although he was honored to win his third MVP, he’d rather win another championship.
The controversy has many NBA fans and experts questioning the MVP voting process. But when you look at Jokic’s stats, you can’t really make an argument against him.
Jockic averaged almost a triple-double this season with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. Alexander will have plenty of years ahead for him to win a league MVP and, like Jockic, he is probably more interested in winning an NBA championship than an MVP trophy.
