The Philadelphia 76ers revealed a statue on Friday, honoring one of the greatest players in their history, Hall of Famer Allen Iverson. It is a unique statue, to say the least.
NBA players are, by and large, extremely tall individuals. Despite that, most statues depicting NBA players tend to be much larger than the actual person. At about six feet tall, Iverson is one of the shorter stars in NBA history.
His statue, however, is tiny. The entire structure, including the podium the statue is built upon, is shorter than Iverson.
Spike Eskin, son of longtime Philadelphia sports talk host Howard Eskin, shed some light on the matter. He noted that at the team’s practice facility, which is where the statue is, all of the statues are small.
“In fairness to the Sixers, I knew this would happen,” Eskin tweeted. “The statues at the Camden facility are all small and it makes sense when you see it in person. But this unveiling is amazing. Especially Iverson patting it on the head like it’s a little kid.”
But even with that understood, Eskin couldn’t help but crack a joke.
