Rapper Lil Wayne performs at Wells Fargo Arena, Thursday, April 11, 2024 in Des Moines, Iowa.

On Saturday, UFC legend Dustin Poirier will make his final walk to the octagon in his hometown, New Orleans, when he takes on Max Holloway in the main event at UFC 318. And interestingly, he will be accompanied by another legend who rose to fame out of New Orleans.

Lil Wayne is of course one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time, with nine albums going 9 platinum in the US over the course of his illustrious career in music.

Lil Wayne also has a big presence in the sports world as a longtime fan of the Green Bay Packers, frequently discussing his sports fandom on FS1 programming over the years. On Saturday, he will show his support for Dustin Poirier, the hometown UFC legend, by accompanying him to the ring, according to Poirier.

Additionally, both Poirier and Holloway showed their respect for Lil Wayne, giving him the honor of putting the “BMF” championship belt to whoever the winner of Saturday’s main event fight ultimately ends up being.

“Let Weezy do it,” said Poirier when asked by a reporter who he would like to see wrap the belt around the winner’s waist.

“I’m not gonna disagree with that,” replied Holloway when asked if he would like the same honor if he wins.

Naturally, given how big of a star Lil Wayne is, there were plenty of combat sports fans who were incredibly excited to see him on Saturday night.

Regardless of how Lil Wayne ultimately places the belt on, Saturday’s main event should certainly be incredibly entertaining.

Poirier and Holloway do have a history, fighting twice before in their career, both fights that were ultimately won by Poirier, most recently in 2019. But despite this, it is Holloway that goes into the fight as a slight betting favorite.
