Former President Donald Trump speaks during the Lincoln Dinner on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

In preparation for an upcoming UFC event hosted on the White House grounds, a massive structure has been built on the White House South Lawn to house the fights. While it was always supposed to be a temporary fixture, Donald Trump has sparked outrage by suggesting that it could remain even after the upcoming UFC event is over.

In a video posted to the President’s official TikTok account, Trump suggested that the fixture could be permanent, going as far as to compare it to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which was initially built for the world’s fair but was never removed afterward.

Trump indicated that he could do the same thing with the UFC structure, claiming that it was “quite attractive to a lot of people,” adding that “maybe we’ll never ever take it down.”

“People don’t know that in Paris, France, the Eiffel Tower, 1889 it was built. It was supposed to be taken down immediately after the world’s fair, and then they said: ‘leave it up a little bit longer,’ and then they said, ‘let’s leave it up longer and longer and longer,'” Trump said in the video.

“Well, they never took it down, and you know we’re building something in front of the White House that’s quite attractive to a lot of people. Really, it’s going to have the big UFC fight on June 14, and I’m looking at it and maybe we’ll never ever take it down,” Trump added.

The event, which has been named the “UFC Freedom Fights 250,” will take place on June 14, Flag Day and Trump’s birthday.

‘This Makes No Sense’

Needless to say, people were not happy at the suggestion that the fixture could become permanent, and they were quick to express their outrage.

“That would be totally appropriate for what the United States has become – a carnival show,” one person wrote in the comments of the story on Yahoo.

“I have nothing against UFC, but it doesn’t belong on the White House lawn,” someone else commented.

“This is so tacky,” another person added.

“I’m a MAGA supporter but this clown show makes no sense. I don’t want this thing on the White House grounds. Sometimes I don’t understand Trump,” someone else wrote.

“He has taken the White House and made it so tacky. Unbelieveable. What was once an honored house is now a circus show,” a commenter wrote.

We’ll have to see whether or not Trump follows through on this suggestion, but it’s clear he does not have much support from the public.
