Burglars targeted the Tampa Bay-area homes of New York Yankees pitchers Domingo German and Luis Severino last year, according to a recently released Hillsborough County document.
The Yankees travel to Tampa for spring training every year.
The team had home games in New York on the day the break-ins occurred.
On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Times broke the story about those 2022 burglaries. According to the outlet, court records state that just before 5 a.m. on Aug. 19, 2022, four people entered German’s home in Thonotossa. They stole “multiple purses and watches valued at approximately $20,000” according to the search warrant obtained by the Times.
Surveillance video reportedly showed “the suspects wearing hoods, masks, and gloves, and driving a Penske rental van.”
The Hillsborough County Sherrif’s Office declined to comment to the Times, citing an “open investigation.” The office did note similarities to robberies that happened at Severino’s home in Tarpon Springs on June 1st and June 3rd, 2022.
That robbery, authorities said, netted the criminals over $300,000 worth in “jewelry, accessories, and other valuables.” Deputies did find a fingerprint at the Tarpon Springs home, but so far it hasn’t led to any arrests.
The Times noted the two burglaries were linked “through cellphone logs, according to the warrant affidavit.” That means it’s “likely the burglaries were committed by the same group of suspects.”
