Yankees fans were quite eager for the looming return of starting pitcher Marcus Stroman. And while he may very well end up being a solid rotational piece for the Yankees when he does return, this most recent rehab start, which was expected to be his last before returning to the MLB, went about as poorly as possible.
Pitching for the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate, the Somerset Patriots, on Tuesday night, Stroman allowed ten hits, five earned runs, and two walks, in 3.2 innings of work.
Allowing ten hits in less than four innings of work at any level obviously isn’t what any team is looking for in a returning former All-Star like Stroman. So it will be interesting to see whether the Yankees will have him make another rehab start to see if he could show some better form before returning to the MLB.
Stroman obviously has the backclass of a player who can provide a real impact for the Yankees, who haven’t exactly had the most solid rotation this season. Just last season, Stroman was a steady part in the Yankees rotation, sporting a 4.31 ERA.
Only time will tell whether Stroman plays much of a role for the Yankees this season. But at the very least, his most recent start before his return has to be an area of concern for Yankees fans.
