You can’t blame New York Yankees fans if they’re a bit on edge at the moment. Their team didn’t come to an agreement with Aaron Judge before the 2022 MLB season and he went on to have one of the most impressive offensive seasons in recent history, sparking a free agency free-for-all that could mean he leaves town.
While the Yankees have put in their best initial offer, the San Francisco Giants have apparently pulled out all the stops to convince Judge to head west. The Giants have reportedly put a nine-year deal in the $360 million range on the table and there’s some speculation that the slugger might consider it.
The Yankees apparently don’t have a Plan B in place so if they lose out on Judge, it’s going to be a very long offseason for Brian Cashman and the team.
So when MLB insider Jon Heyman tweeted out Tuesday night that “Arson Judge appears headed to the Giants,” you can understand why Yankees fans lost their minds. And while everyone else was having a grand old time turning “Arson Judge” into a meme, the New York faithful were plotting Heyman’s demise, even after he clarified that he “jumped the gun.”
The madness is far from over for Yankees fans as San Francisco Chronicle‘s Susan Slusser reported a “rumbling” that the Giants will land Judge while Yankees play-by-play announcer Michael Kay reported the team is “still in play” to retain Judge.
