The Chicago White Sox came away with a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday. However, a big takeaway from the game was not positive for the team. Their star shortstop Tim Anderson suffered a concerning injury.
Anderson has been the most consistent hitter in recent years for the White Sox, hitting .301 last season which earned him his second career All-Star game appearance.
He has started this season strong as well but was involved in a pretty nasty collision on Monday which may derail his season.
The play happened in the bottom of the fourth inning while the White Sox were on the field. They had Twins right fielder Matt Wallner in a run down after a ground ball was hit. However, the throw was errant and Wallner slid head-first into third base safely.
Unfortunately, Anderson was covering the third base bag. Wallner’s slide took out Anderson’s left leg. Anderson remained on the ground for quite some time before getting to his feet.
He initially fought threw the pain, playing the fifth inning of the game. However, the White Sox pulled him later due to what the team called “left knee soreness.”
Many fans took to social media to offer their support for Anderson, hoping that this injury isn’t anything serious.

This is particularly concerning because Tim Anderson certainly has an extensive past of injuries. He notably missed the last two months of the season last year due to a hand injury.
There will surely be an update in the coming days on his availability after this injury. Fortunately, initial reports seem to believe that it is not a long-term injury.
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol detailed after the game that he is “optimistic” about Anderson’s chances of returning soon.
