If you were watching Saturday’s game between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians but turned it off after Chicago went up 5-0, you missed a lot.
What looked like it would be a simple RBI double from Cleveland’s José Ramírez turned into a fight between Ramírez and White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. Shortly thereafter, it became a bench-clearing brawl.
Ramírez slid into second base head first, just ahead of Anderson’s tag. Ramírez was unhappy with Anderson standing over him and as soon as he got to his feet, got into Anderson’s face. Not long after, punches were thrown, Anderson fell to the ground and the benches cleared.
And right as the White Sox got Anderson into the dugout to seemingly end the fight, hostilities were renewed. It took several more minutes until things were finally calmed down.
Most baseball fights aren’t really fights at all. They’ll usually have a shove or two before things are calmed down. This was much different. And because it was so different, it got the attention of baseball fans.
Even the coaches were trying to get busy!!!! What on earth was going on????? https://t.co/9nBr1Dnil8

In total, the brawl ended up with six ejections. Anderson and manager Pedro Grifol were the White Sox ejected. Ramirez and closer Emmanuel Clase were the Guardians players ejected, along with manager Terry Francona and third base coach Mike Sarbaugh.
