New York Yankees left-hander Aroldis Chapman has had the best velocity in the majors since he entered the league in 2010, but he took things to another level against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.
Chapman hit 105 on the radar gun, not once, but twice. He also threw 104 mph three times, and 103 once. In total, Chapman threw 19 pitches, and 15 of them were recorded at 100+ mph:
MLB.Com’s Daren Willman said that one pitch was recorded at 105.1 mph by Statcast, tying Chapman’s own record for fastest pitch per Statcast:
CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa said that pitchFX had Chapman’s fastball at 105.7 mph:
Whatever the case, he threw 105 mph+, and that is ridiculous. Here’s video:
Chapman could have some competition coming soon on that 105-mph record, as Red Sox prospect Michael Kopech hit 105 mph last week in the minors.
