Vladimir Guerrero achieved a lot in his career, leading to him being elected to the Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 2018. One of those accomplishments was a win in the 2007 Home Run Derby. On Monday, he got another special moment in the Home Run Derby. That came courtesy of his son, Toronto Blue Jays star, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The younger Guerrero, who narrowly missed a Home Run Derby win in the 2019 event, finally put his name among the winners on Monday night, beating Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts in the first round, hometown favorite, Julio Rodríguez of the Seattle Mariners in the second round and then Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena in the final.
And when it was over, Guerrero Sr. had a message for his son. The Hall of Famer tweeted, “PROUD and LOVE FOR MY SON Congratulation Vlad Jr” followed by a heart emoji.
The baseball world couldn’t help but be touched by the nice message that the Hall of Fame father sent to his son.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s win in Seattle on Monday was also historic. That victory, coupled with his father’s win in San Francisco in 2007, made the Guerreros the first father-and-son combo to both win the Home Run Derby.
