Former Major League Baseball Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer hasn’t played in the MLB since sexual assault allegations surfaced against him in 2021. He now plays in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, where he is the team’s biggest star. But it appears that he has some conflict with a current teammate.
As the Twitter account Yakyu Cosmopolitan pointed out, a DeNA BayStars teammate criticized Bauer for a video in which he teaches BayStars fans how to do his iconic sword celebration.
“DeNA Baystars closer Yasuaki Yamasaki calls out teammate Trevor Bauer and the Baystars social media team for inciting fans to do his strikeout sword celebration at the stadium,” Yakyu Cosmopolitan said in a tweet.
The Yakyu Cosmopolitan Twitter account provided a translation of the reply to Bauer: “Don’t be an idiot. That is disrespectful. There are better ways to go about this.”
It’s safe to say that Bauer has quickly become the team’s biggest star and the team seems to be leaning into his star power and name recognition – hence the video teaching the fans his iconic celebration.
However, it’s quite clear that not everyone in the locker his new team’s locker room enjoys his popularity or stardom.
