No, this dog isn’t a Jim Henson puppet creation. And no, it isn’t some human dressed up in a dog costume.

It’s actually a real, live dog that hung out in the Tampa Bay Rays’ dugout on Wednesday at Tropicana Field. In a Rays uniform.

This is Super Dog Max, and he looks ready to write out lineup cards and pass along some hit and run signs to the Rays’ third base coach. Maybe even take advantage of the new iPad technology allowed in MLB dugouts. He also drives the grounds crew cart.

Needing to know much, much more about Super Dog Max, I googled his terrific name, and found out he has a website (which I’m sure he created, and without much trouble). And on Super Dog Max’s website, I came across his bio:

Name: Max
Breed: 100% PureBred Standard Poodle
Color: Red
Location: Tampa, Florida
Country: United States
Gender: Male
Born: 2009
Weight: 60 lbs
Licensed Service Animal
Certified Therapy Dog

I am a Red 100% Standard Poodle that has been DNA tested. I am all poodle, no mix! I have been through several hundred hours of training, work well with children, adults, crowds and am able to get along with a variety of different animals. I do not bark at other animals or people. I do not nip or bite and have several commands which I adhere to immediately from hand signals or verbally with no problem.

Commands are: sit, stay, up, down, hold, bark, stand, fetch, kiss, shake hands using either foot, beg, stay in any position for 10-20 minutes, does not react to flashes or noise. I love to swim and go boating. My owner can teach me any trick or command with-in 1-2 weeks, depending upon whether I want to listen to him.

I am available for photo shoots, movies, pet modeling, magazine spreads and just about anything you can think of. I love to work and am always looking for something new to try. I have traveled by train, planes, numerous different vehicles with no problem.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. All e-mails will be responded to with-in 48 hours or when I finish walking my owner.

Thank you for visiting my web site,
Max

No, Super Dog Max. Thank you.

Also, Super Dog Max’s photo gallery is one of the most amazing things I’ve come across on the Internet.
