The Texas Rangers are in the middle of their fourth-straight losing season and are currently on pace to lose 90 games this season. As a result, it looks like the team is parting ways with manager Chris Woodward.
According to a report from the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers are firing Woodward in the middle of his fourth season with the team ahead of the final year of his contract. In over three seasons with the team, Woodward finishes with a 211-287 record. That .424 win percentage is the sixth worst in MLB during that time.
Texas Rangers President of Baseball Operations Jon Daniels was asked about Woodward’s status just after the All-Star Break and was non-committal.
“I think where we are in the standings, that’s not a reflection of any one person or any one group,” Daniels said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “Ultimately that’s on [myself and general manager Chris Young] more than anyone else. I think [Woodward] and the staff are working tirelessly and doing everything they can do to continue to develop this group and push forward. But as far as evaluating individual departments or individual people, it’s not something I want to do right now.”
While Woodward will not be returning to the team, there is no word on who will serve as the Rangers’ interim manager.
