The Texas Rangers are one of six teams that will wear City Connect jerseys for the first time in 2023. On Monday, the Rangers unveiled the uniform that they will be wearing for every Friday home game this season. Sometimes, those uniforms are well-received by fans and the MLB world. But Texas’s City Connect uniforms on Monday most definitely were not
Needless to say, the Rangers may have wanted to wait for a Friday news dump on this one.
“Our City Connect uniform celebrates the origin story of the Rangers and the Texas spirit that brought Dallas and Fort Worth together in Arlington,” the organization said when explaining the design. “Through baseball. Because it’s good to know where you come from.”
The Rangers later explained the story behind the uniform design:
Unfortunately, the only thing the jerseys brought together was the MLB world to roast the Rangers on social media:
“I hope y’all never wear these,” a Rangers fan tweeted.
“Feels like they looked at the Rice Owls uniform and said ‘ehhh, good enough.'” wrote Daniel Stark.
“These might be the worst uniforms in major league history,” tweeted Matt Cote.
“This jersey is going to create thousands of new Astros fans,” Mike Michell jokingly wrote.
“I get the story behind these, but I can’t get into them,” Dodgers Andrew tweeted.
