Steve Cohen has very strong reaction toward player’s agent

New York Mets owner Steve Cohen wears his heart on his sleeve and that can be good or bad depending on your point of view. He’s a fan and fans vent on social media about their team. It’s just that the average fan doesn’t own the team they love and they don’t have the social media platform Cohen has. And that might result in certain posts being a lot more newsworthy.

This morning, Cohen vented on Twitter about a player’s agent showing unprofessional behavior. He didn’t reveal the player or the agent but he was certainly upset at them.

It didn’t take very long for someone to piece together who Cohen was talking about. Five minutes after that post, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman followed up that the Mets were upset that Steven Matz went to the St. Louis Cardinals at the last minute and spurned a return to his hometown team. Heyman revealed that agent Rob Martin “suggested Matz changed his mind” about returning to the Mets.

This is going to be a “he said, he said” situation and it’s likely that the truth is somewhere in the middle. Cohen tweeting about Martin showing “unprofessional behavior” might’ve made him feel a bit better but some people may feel that going to social media to post that is also displaying unprofessional behavior. Maybe Cohen is so angry at Martin that he’s decided to never do business with him and if so, that’s fine. But the great feeling of firing off your emotions on social media is temporary and maybe this was one of those times to save it in the drafts and not risk destroying future business.

UPDATE: Rob Martin submitted a statement saying that he will “instead take the high road” and that Matz “made the decision he felt was best for him and his family.”
