Los Angeles Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani entered Friday with four more home runs than any other player in the majors, and he’s extended that lead with a ridiculous blast.
Ohtani hit a lefty-on-lefty bomb 463 feet on Friday night against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park, giving him 33 home runs on the season. The blast had an exit velocity of 116.5 mph, making it his fourth homer of at least 116 mph this season (also an MLB-leading mark).
With Ohtani’s 32nd home run, he broke Hideki Matstui’s record for the most homers in a single MLB season by a Japanese-born player. 33 home runs now, and we still aren’t even at the All-Star break (related: he’ll be in the Home Run Derby at Coors Field).
Oh, and he also has a 3.49 ERA in 67 innings as a pitcher this season. Sometimes we use the word “unbelievable” too lightly in sports, but what Ohtani is doing is truly unbelievable.
