The Kansas City Royals have struggled since winning a World Series title in 2015, but it appears they have may have a young star on the way from their farm system in the not too distant future. Bobby Witt Jr. — whose father Bobby Sr. was an MLB pitcher for 16 years — was the No. 2 overall pick by the Royals in 2019, and he’s showing in 2021 spring training why he was selected so high in the draft.
Witt has homered in back-to-back spring training games for the Royals, and his dinger on Monday against the Oakland Athletics was a MAMMOTH blast, estimated at 484 feet. It landed on the concourse at Surprise Stadium, well beyond on the outfield wall.
Absurd power from a 20-year-old shortstop.
Royals pitcher Brady Singer was asked what impresses him most about Witt: “I think the 15 tools he has.”
It will be fun to track Witt’s progress over the rest of spring training and in the minors this season. He’s only played in Rookie ball so far (COVID knocked out the minor-league season in 2020), but he should be a fast mover through the Kansas City system with his remarkable talent.
