It’s no secret that Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. plays the game with a bit more flare than some of the old-school Major League Baseball players and managers may be used to. And his home run celebrations appear to have bothered Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson.
Before the before the Phillies took on the Braves Wednesday night, Thomson had a pretty blunt comment about Ronald Acuña flapping his arms as he ran the bases following a home run off of Zack Wheeler earlier in the series.
“I like our guys to act like they’ve been there before,” Thomson told WIP in Philadelphia.
Thomson later attempted to clarify, claiming that players like Acuña and Marcell Ozuna can “do what they want,” but he still made it pretty clear that he is not a fan of the way they play the game.
“That was nothing to do with the Atlanta Braves and what Ronald does, or Ozuna,” Thomson said. “They can do what they want. I can’t control that. I just mentioned that I preferred people act like they’d been there. I wasn’t trying to start a controversy or anything like that.”
Whether he likes it or not though, the MLB is changing rapidly and Thomson is now in the minority with his opinion.
