Brainer Bonaci One of the top prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization has been suspended for the entire 2024 season.
Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reported that Bonaci is being suspended for the entire season “for a violation of the minor league domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy, according to industry sources.”
The suspension is a result of the violation that brought his 2023 season to a premature end and caused his time in the Arizona Fall League to be limited to just two games.
“Bonaci had been placed on the restricted list in October, resulting in his departure from the Arizona Fall League,” Speier reported.
“Bonaci, 21, split 2023 between High A Greenville and Double A Portland, emerging as a top-10 prospect in the Red Sox system while hitting .297/.354/.464 with 11 home runs and seven stolen bases in 79 games,” he added. “However, after 16 games in Portland, he was placed on the suspended list and sent home while the league began an investigation into his potential violation, which ultimately resulted in his suspension.”
While the policy Bonaci violated does shed some possible light on it, it’s unknown what Bonaci did to violate the policy.
At the end of the 2023 season, Bonaci, a switch-hitting middle infielder, was ranked as the No. 12 prospect in the Red Sox organization.
