Baseball is a sport that will humble you very quickly. And if you needed further proof of that, just look at a hilarious moment on Thursday from San Diego Padres star Manny Machado in Thursday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.
Machado has an RBI chance in the sixth inning of the game, with a runner on third base with only one out. Just about any deep fly ball would score Fernando Tatis Jr, the runner on third base.
Instead, Giants pitcher Logan Webb was able to jam Machado, leading to a lazy fly ball caught by Giants second baseman Thairo Estrada.
Naturally, Machado was frustrated with not being able to drive in the runner in scoring position. So frustrated, in fact, that he attempted to break his bat over his knee as he walked back to the dugout.
However, the bat had other ideas… The attempt was unsuccessful, and Machado angrily walked into the dugout unsuccessful in both his at-bat and breaking his bat afterwards.
Fans took notice of this unfortunate moment for Machado and got a good laugh out of his unsuccessful bat-break.
Machado will surely have a sore knee after that one. But luckily, his teammates were able to pick up the slack for him in a game that he struggled pretty heavily in. The Padres would go on to win this game 6-4 over their NL West rival.
