One MLB team is not a fan of the latest update on the All-Star Game vote tallies.
The Baltimore Orioles voiced some displeasure towards the latest update in American League voting for the 2023 edition of the Midsummer Classic. In this specific case, the Orioles groaned at the fact that star catcher Adley Rutschman is not the AL’s leading vote-getter at his position. Instead, it’s Texas Rangers backstop, Jonah Heim.
Needless to say, the O’s weren’t pleased. They posted a meme from the hit TV show Gravity Falls in response to the update.
“Woah. This is worthless!” the meme read.
Not every day do you see a team crush All-Star Game voting like this. But the O’s made their voices clear. Texas has dominated much of the voting, with Heim, shortstop Corey Seager, third baseman Josh Jung, and second baseman Marcus Semien currently leading at their positions. Adolis García is fifth amongst AL outfielders according to the latest tallies.
Both Heim and Rutschman have enjoyed great seasons this year. The Ranger catcher is slashing .282/.331/.478 with 11 home runs, 55 RBI, and 39 runs scored. Meanwhile, the Oriole backstop is slashing .269/.380/.416 with 10 home runs, 34 RBI, and 36 runs scored. So while Heim isn’t getting on base as much as Rutschman, he’s made up for it in slugging percentage.
They are two of the best catchers in the AL this year. But even still, the Orioles clearly made their presence felt.
