The New York Yankees have not had the season that many expected, falling completely out of the playoff picture with a 65-68 record on the year. It now seems like they are giving more young players opportunities, as they made a huge decision on Wednesday night on 20-year-old outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez.
Dominguez, the No. 2 prospect in the Yankees system and the No. 78 prospect in all of baseball, has been a prospect that Yankees fans have been following closely. He has shown off plus power along with above-average speed across every level of the minors.
He recently received the call-up to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre, where he excelled hitting .464 with two home runs in ten RBIs in just nine games.
The Yankees clearly took notice of how smoothly he transitioned to Triple-A pitching, and it seems like they have seen enough. According to longtime Yankees beat writer Bryan Hoch, Dominguez will be called up by the Yankees for their upcoming series against the Houston Astros.
Fans took notice of this news and are extremely excited to see him debut for the Yankees.
This decision by the Yankees is the latest in their new youth movement. The team also recently called up fellow outfield prospect Everson Pereira, the No. 3 prospect in their farm system.
Along with Dominguez, catcher prospect Austin Wells will reportedly also be receiving the call-up by the Yankees
There isn’t all that much left for the Yankees to play for the rest of the season. So going in a younger direction should at the very least provide a little excitement around this team for the remainder of the year.
