The 2021 MLB All-Star Game will not be in Atlanta after all.
On Friday, MLB announced that the game would be moved from the city following Georgia’s controversial new voting laws.
In his statement, Commissioner Rob Manfred said that MLB “fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box,” also noting that the league would continue with its plans to honor the late Hank Aaron during All-Star events and would continue with “planned investments to support local communities in Atlanta.”
A new host for the 2021 ASG hasn’t been announced, though MLB stated that they were finalizing an announcement on the new host city.
Future All-Star Game hosts include Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles in 2022 (the Dodgers were supposed to host the 2020 game, but well, the pandemic happened) and Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia in 2026. The 2018 game was held at Washington’s Nationals Park, while the 2019 game was held at Cleveland’s Progressive Field.
