The final day of the 2022 MLB regular season featured memorable home runs for each club in the Oakland Athletics’ 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
For the A’s, Stephen Vogt homered — and was jubilant around the bases — in the final plate appearance of his major-league career.
And for the Angels, Mike Trout crushed a mammoth home run in his final plate appearance of the season.
Initially, Statcast had the estimated distance for Trout’s homer at 452 feet. But on Wednesday night, Statcast updated the distance to 490 feet. That’s good for the longest home run of Trout’s incredible career.
It’s also the longest home run hit at the Oakland Coliseum in the Statcast era.
Oh, and it gives Trout 40 home runs on the season and 350 homers of his career.
Three amazing achievements in one blast.
Unfortunately, the game also perfectly summarized how the entire season has gone for Trout and his superstar two-way teammate, Shohei Ohtani. Trout hit an incredible home run, Ohtani allowed one run over five innings as the starting pitcher (he also went 1-for-4 at the plate), and the Angels still lost to the A’s, who finish the season with an AL-worst record of 60-102. Even with the brilliance of Trout and Ohtani, the Angels won only 73 games.
Despite being limited to 119 games this season due to injury, Trout still finished with 40 homers and a .999 OPS, and he was valued at 6.0 wins above replacement per FanGraphs.
Trout is one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and the 31-year-old continues to do new incredible things.
