2023 will be the final season for slugger Miguel Cabrera. The future Baseball Hall of Famer will call it a career at the conclusion of the season, capping an unbelievable career.
Cabrera, who won the AL Triple Crown in 2012, is lightening up his approach as he enters his final campaign. The 12-time All-Star opened up at Spring Training about what’s to come this season.
Via ESPN, Cabrera said of his final season with the Detroit Tigers:
“I’m going to go out there and be me. Try to have fun, try to go out there and, when they give me a chance to play, play. I don’t know what is going to be my role this year,” Cabrera said. “If I can hit, I want to be in the lineup.”
Cabrera sounded at ease with his decision to call it a career when he spoke at spring training Monday, joking with reporters in his usual playful way and insisting he doesn’t need opponents to lavish him with attention. That will likely come whether he wants it or not.
Miguel Cabrera is one of the most celebrated hitters of the 21st century. Cabrera hit marvelously in both the National and American Leagues. He began his career winning a World Series with the Florida Marlins in 2003. From there, he went on to be brilliant. The Marlins traded him and star pitcher Dontrelle Willis in a blockbuster deal before the 2007 season. Cabrera has played for the Tigers ever since, becoming one of the franchise’s most iconic players.
Cabrera will finish his career with over 3,000 hits after he accomplished the milestone last season.in his illustrious career, he won two AL MVPs in 2012 and 2013. He won seven Silver Slugger Awards, two in the NL, and five in the AL. He won the batting title in the AL four times, three years in ar ow from 2011 through 2013. He led the AL in home runs in 2008 and 2012 and in RBI in 2010 and 2012.
