In the least surprising news of the day, New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha said he would be writing a book about food.
During an in-game interview with ESPN on Tuesday, Canha said his new book, “Ultimate Guide to Food in Major League Cities,” would be in production.
Why isn’t this a surprise? Well, the “big league foodie,” as his social media handles describe, has had a passion for food since he was a young kid growing up in the Bay Area. His dad traveled around the world for work and exposed Canha to the delicious universe that started with some risotto.
A monster was born.
Having had countless interviews with Canha over the years, it’ll always make its way back to food.
Being on the road as much as he is, he’s been able to mirror what his father did — seeing different places, and eating the types of cuisines they possess.
He cooks as well, so he doesn’t always leave it to the professionals. Another thing to take advantage of while he’s on the road.
Canha’s love for food also created a way to connect to fans who will shout to him about places he needs to go. His teammates need to be prepared, however.
“You’ve gone to dinner and had no idea what you’re about to eat,” former Mets and Oakland A’s teammate Chris Bassitt once said in an interview with MLB.com.
“He truly enjoys the culinary scene,” Bassitt added. “Way more than me, just going to get pizza from down the street. If you want a certain type of food, he usually has the right place to go and the best place to go.”
Plenty of options and cities under the eight-year veteran’s belt to create a book.
