The New York Mets announced that they will move a 2023 All-Star to the injured list. Kodai Senga, last year’s National Rookie of the Year runner-up, hasn’t made it to the big leagues this year after suffering an injury in Spring Training.
So the dispiriting news that the Mets moved Senga to the 60-day injured list was received as you might expect.
Mets reporter Will Samson of The Athletic emerged on Wednesday with the details that the Mets will move the second-year pitcher to the 60-day IL as he heals up. He strained a moderate posterior capsule in Spring Training and that injury has been so prominent, Senga hasn’t thrown off a mound yet. His ETA is now late May.
Senga posted a 2.98 ERA in 166.1 innings pitched in his rookie season in 2023. He was named a National League All-Star for his efforts and also finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting. Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll earned the award last season after a fantastic season.
Mets fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Senga. Things haven’t really gone well for the Mets this season, which was evident as many were dispirited by the news.
