A massive benches-clearing fight broke out on Tuesday night during the evening’s game between the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Angels, leading to multiple ejections after punches were thrown.
The incident happened in the bottom of the fifth inning when Angels outfielder Jorge Soler took exception to Reynaldo López throwing up and to the backstop after he had homered in his first at-bat and was hit by a pitch in his second at-bat.
The two stared at each other for a few moments before Soler eventually charged the mound and threw punches at López, who reciprocated with some punches of his own, though neither of them appeared to actually land a punch.
The altercation between Soler and López led to the benches clearing from both teams as players flooded onto the field, resulting in a massive brawl.
The umpires eventually got control of the situation and were able to calm things down, but both Soler and López were ejected from the game as a result of the incident.
It’s worth noting that while both benches did clear during the incident, with nearly every player from both teams ultimately ending up on the field, no other punches were thrown outside of the altercation between Soler and López.
It’s not clear whether or not either Soler or López will face further disciplinary action from the league as a result of the fight.
