The surprising Miami Marlins (14-11) swept a doubleheader against the New York Mets on Tuesday at Citi Field. The Mets didn’t even score a single run in the two games.
It was an embarrassing day at the ballpark for Mets, and perhaps the most humiliating moment came in the sixth inning of Game 2, when Miami’s Jon Berti stole second, third, and home.
Stealing home in today’s game is a very rare accomplishment, but especially when using the method that Berti did. When Mets catcher Ali Sanchez — making his MLB debut — softly tossed the ball back to pitcher Jeurys Familia, Berti took off for home. But Berti stumbled, and kept his balance by doing a bear crawl before crossing home plate.
Berti is the first player in Marlins history to steal three bases in one inning, and he’s surely the first one to go with the bear crawl while stealing home.
