Baseball doesn’t have the same cultural influence over the United States that it once did, with radio falling out of fashion to make way for television and the stranglehold that the NFL has over sports.
However, the MLB has experienced a bit of resurgence as of late, thanks to a flurry of rule changes aimed at making the game more exciting, and in no small part to the emergence of Shohei Ohtani, who is dominating the sport both from the batter’s box and the mound.
Unfortunately, Ohtani may be dealing with a serious injury that could keeep him from pitching for the forseeable future.
“Shohei Ohtani threw six straight balls, missing badly on most of them, and is now leaving with a trainer. Uh oh,” reported The Athletic’s FAvian Ardaya on Wednesday evening.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Not a big deal he will just hit and y’all will win the World Series anyway,” someone on Twitter wrote.
“Unlike dodger fans who thrive off of wishing career threatening injuries to #Padres players, I will say I hope shohei can return soon. I love watching him play, even though he shreds the Pads,” one fan added.
“I get he wants to pitch but why bother? Just cruise to retirement being the most incredible DH of all time,” added one fan.
Hopefully, Ohtani isn’t dealing with anything too serious and can return to pitching soon.
