It’s no secret that New York Mets right fielder Juan Soto isn’t at the top of everyone’s list, as he was last year, but let’s give a little respect to his game.
In only 122 games played, Soto has hit 30 HR and looks to be at the top of the hill when it comes to players walked this season. Has he been the showtime guy he was in the Bronx, no, but Queens has space for a new king.
In Sunday night’s game versus the Seattle Mariners, the Mets not only hosted the SeaMen but also little leaguers from around the world in the annual MLB Little League Classic. Before the main event at 7, major leaguers attended Little League World Series games earlier in the day, “demonstrating their commitment to helping grow the game at the youth level and engage with young fans,” according to the official MLB site.
An exciting day for all young athletes who aspire to be a pro one day. But not that exciting for some.
In an interview, two kids from Team Canada and Australia are asked, “Are there any autographs or pictures you wanna get with players in specific?” While Team Australia answers Juan Soto, according to Awful Announcing, Misha Lee from Canada responds with, “Eh, he’s kinda overrated, he’s alright.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Every kid who plays sports knows almost nothing about it lmfao”
“Kids a real fool. He won’t ever be a pro. Parroting his dad.”
With 30 games left, hopefully Soto can turn things around and silence critics of all shapes and sizes with his postseason play. The Mets take on the Washington Nationals tonight in a must-win series to take command of their division.
