New York City sports fans are having as brutal a stretch as you can imagine. The New York Knicks squandered a big lead in Game 2 of their playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks, and the Mets are currently dealing with an 11-game losing streak.
Things are so bad for the Mets at the moment that even Mayor Zohran Mamdani is crossing his fingers in the hopes that he can get things turned around, and he isn’t the only one pulling out all of the stops.
Hailey Welch, who previously went mega-viral for her “hawk tuah on that thing” moment, has stepped out of the limelight and has been “minding her business in Tennessee,” but she brought back her iconic bit in an effort to help the Mets turn things around during a video call in to WFAN Sports Radio on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to her moment on social media.
“Lol, this is how far the mets have sank? I love it. They will always be the loser of the city. This is, and always will be, a Yankees town,” one Yankees fan wrote on Twitter.
“Absolute disgrace that this once proud station had fallen to this level,” someone else added.
“She gets so much undeserved hate. The reason she threw out the first pitch in the first place was to advertise her charity that actually does good work. Hope she’s doing well,” anotehr fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Welch’s efforts prove fruitful.
