America has quickly come to learn that you can’t trust anything that comes out of George Santos’s mouth.

So when the U.S. representative for New York’s 3rd congressional district released a video earlier this week in support of the New York Mets, the entire MLB world wondered what the karmic implications might be.

Santos, who has been caught lying about various things he said on the campaign trail and in his personal life, put up a video of himself in a Mets jersey to celebrate Opening Day.

“As a good, old Mets fan, I know you guys aren’t gonna be playing until April 6 back home, but a good, old-fashioned ‘Let’s Go Mets!'”

It’s unclear if anyone has ever said “Let’s Go Mets” quite like that.

On its own, the cringe factor is off the charts. But when you bring Santos’ reputation into the mix, it left the MLB world with a lot to say, including whether or not this confirms that the representative is actually a New York Yankees fan.

“Straight up this made me doubt that there was a team called the Mets,” said Dave Holmes.

“It’s going to leak that he’s a Phillies fan,” said Dan White.

“A lot of people seem dubious of George Santos’ baseball credentials. Apparently they forgot all about his All-Star season at second base during the Mets’ 2011 World Series run,” said Ted Berg.

“He built Shea Stadium and then self financed Citi Field. Now he’s on a mission to change the beat of the Let’s Go Mets chant,” said Ben Meiselas.

“If you have a second, he’ll tell you about the time he hit a slow dribbler up the first base line that slipped through Bill Buckner’s legs,” said Phillip Bump.
