One fan learned the hard way, it’s not always easy to get a home run ball souvenir, even if it’s right in front of you.

The Seattle Mariners faced off against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, where Hanley Ramirez hit a home run off soft-tosser Wade LeBlanc to deep left field. The dinger was a long one, as the ball sailed over a scoreboard, right into stadium netting. A fan sitting in front of the netting desperately wanted the stuck ball and attempted to dig it out. It did not go well.

The fan reaches into the net and tries to pry it free. Unfortunately for him, the ball is near the bottom of the mesh and not easily grabbable. The fan does not give up, attempting to spring it free with both hands – an attempt which also doesn’t work.

A security guard eventually told the frustrated fan to stop grabbing at it and attempted to fish it out himself. The guard attempts to untwine the ball but has no luck in doing so. It was clearly stuck in the mesh. He gives up pretty quickly. As one of the commentators suggest, the only way to dislodge the ball is to cut it out.

While the fan (and perhaps the security guard) desperately wanted to take Ramirez’s home run ball home as a souvenir, the ball had other ideas. The question remains, is the ball still there?
