The Cincinnati Reds are getting a major boost to their lineup that should also generate plenty of excitement from around Major League Baseball as the team has decided to call up top prospect Elly De La Cruz to the active lineup.

Not only is Elly De La Cruz the top prospect in the Cincinnati Reds system, but he is also widely considered one of the top prospects in all of baseball – maybe even the single top prospect.

“ANNOUNCING ELLY DE LA CRUZ,” the Cincinnati Reds said in a tweet. “Welcome to The Show, [Elly].”

De La Cruz is taking the roster spot of Nick Senzel, who the team placed on the injured list with a knee injury.

The 21-year-old infielder is expected to make his Major League Baseball debut on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. At the Triple-A level this season, De La Cruz has an extremely impressive .298/.398/.633 batting line with 12 home runs, 36 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 38 runs scored through 186 plate appearances.

There is still a question of where exactly De La Cruz will play in the infield, but it’s clear that the team will find a place to put the young star who was recently named MLB’s top prospect by ESPN.
