Is Dusty Baker ever truly done with the game of baseball? It wouldn’t appear so.
Despite winning his sole World Series as a manager of the Houston Astros, he remains royalty with the San Francisco Giants. He said there’s a possibility he will make a return to the organization.
“There just preliminary talks,” Baker said Friday on 95.7 The Game’s Steiny and Guru. “Like I said, I’ve talked to Larry [Baer] and I’m waiting to talk to Farhan [Zaidi]. You know they do have a team here in Sacramento where I am here. The River Cats — not sure if they’re still the River Cats, but you know, we’ll see we can work things out family-wise and time-wise, all kind of ways so like I said, it’s just — we’re just having preliminary talks. We’ll see how things work out.”
Baker retired from major-league managing in October after an illustrious career. Across 26 seasons in the managerial seat, he earned three NL Manager of the Year Awards and won 10 division titles.
“I’m very grateful and thankful to Jim Crane and the Houston Astros for this opportunity, and to win a championship,” Baker told USA Today. “I felt like they’ve been good for me, and I’ve been good for them.”
While we aren’t sure what the job would be if he returns to a role with the Giants, but we’re sure he’ll be welcomed with open arms.
