The San Francisco Giants officially announced the return of Dusty Baker on Thursday.
“It’s good to have you back, Dusty,” the Giants posted on X.
He will be in a front office position serving as a special advisor to baseball operations.
Baker had hinted back in December a reunion could be in place.
“They’re just preliminary talks,” Baker said in December on 95.7 The Game’s Steiny and Guru. “Like I said, I’ve talked to Larry [Baer] and I’m waiting to talk to Farhan [Zaidi]. You know they do have a team here in Sacramento where I am here. The River Cats — not sure if they’re still the River Cats, but you know, we’ll see we can work things out family-wise and time-wise, all kind of ways so like I said, it’s just — we’re just having preliminary talks. We’ll see how things work out.”
Baker managed the Giants for a decade from 1993-2002 and recently retired from his managerial duties in 2023 with the Houston Astros. Across five teams and 26 seasons, he earned three National League Manager of the Year Awards and won 10 division titles.
He won a World Series championship with the Astros in 2022.
According to the original report from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Baker will also be assisting Larry Baer on the ownership side.
