Weeks after selecting him No. 2 overall in the 2022 MLB Draft, the Arizona Diamondbacks got some bad news as it relates to Druw Jones.
Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reported that Jones hurt his shoulder during his first batting practice with the team on Monday. While more will be known after he sees the doctor on Wednesday, it’s possible that he’ll miss the remainder of the season.
Jones entered his final high school season with great expectations and lived up to them with a monster year. Due to his performance and bloodline, he’s one of the most well-known prospects to come into the MLB Draft in a long time. As such, the news of his injury caught the attention of many in the MLB world.

An injury is never good news. That said, if an injury is going to happen that will keep Jones sidelined for a while, this is the best time possible for it.
As a high school prospect, Jones is years away from making it to Major League Baseball. He may end up missing the remainder of the Minor League season in 2022. But at this point, it seems far more likely than not that he’ll be ready to go for spring training in 2023.
If this injury ends up being long lasting, the positive spin will be harder to come by. But if he’s ready to go by next spring, it shouldn’t be anything more than a minor setback.
