The Los Angeles Dodgers made a snappy decision on Julio Urias. On Wednesday, the Dodgers placed Urias on administrative leave days after he was arrested for felony domestic violence.
Jeff Passan reported the news on Wednesday afternoon. The ESPN MLB insider wrote, “Los Angeles Dodgers starter Julio Urias is being placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball in the wake of his arrest on suspicion of felony domestic violence, a source tells ESPN.”
This move came as no surprise as it was the expected first move for the team in this process. The Dodgers made a similar move against former pitcher Trevor Bauer, who was also in hot water over an alleged abuse case as well. MLB issued Bauer the lengthiest suspension for violence and abuse in history, a suspension that lasted two seasons. An arbitrator eventually ruled against that suspension, but no MLB team picked Bauer up. He’s currently pitching overseas, and from what we can tell, not so well.
Urias has a pattern of domestic violence. He accepted a 20-game suspension in 2019 after being involved in an incident that led to an arrest as well. Urias’ case this time is a felony, which could mean much worse things than not being able to pitch in an MLB game again. His time with the Dodgers has likely run out, as he was set to be a free agent this offseason. It’s very likely that he’s probably thrown his last pitch for the Dodgers.
