The Los Angeles Dodgers won a battle of Will Smiths and got two home runs from Corey Seager to send the NLCS to a Game 6. The Atlanta Braves led 2-0 into the fourth inning and 2-1 into the sixth inning, which surely had Dodgers fans thinking, “Here we go again.”
But in the bottom of the sixth, Dodgers catcher Will Smith came to the plate to face Braves relief pitcher… Will Smith, in the first-ever MLB batter-pitcher matchup featuring players of the same name (and this is basically the plot of Gemini Man). And the Dodgers’ Will Smith won the battle with a huge three-run homer to give Los Angeles a 4-2 lead.
The Dodgers’ first run of the night came on a solo homer from Seager.
And Seager hit a two-run blast to put Los Angeles up 7-2 in the top of the seventh.
The Dodgers — the World Series favorite entering the postseason — survive for at least one more game, and they’ll have a chance to even up to series on Saturday and force a Game 7. It will be a terrific pitching matchup, with Walker Buehler getting the start for Los Angeles and Max Fried taking the hill for Atlanta.
