Arizona Diamondbacks rookie star Corbin Carroll admits to being a little shaken after leaving Thursday’s game with a sore right shoulder.
Carroll, Arizona’s first-round pick in 2019, missed most of the 2021 minor-league season with a posterior capsular avulsion and a labrum tear in that shoulder, which required surgery.
So when he left the game against the Tampa Bay Rays in the fourth inning, Carroll had cause for concern.
“Yeah, really weird feeling in my shoulder that I hadn’t felt before, since the injury had happened,” Carroll told reporters after the game. “And so, it shook me up pretty good, I was pretty concerned. I just wanted to make sure that the stability was all there.”
The Diamondback’s training staff checked out the shoulder and found no issues. The team labeled him as day-to-day.
“They checked it out, and I got the green light there, which is a huge weight off my shoulders,” Carroll said. “Now it’s just kind of move forward … and take it day-to-day.”
Carroll has lived up to his billing this season as Arizona’s top prospect. Thursday, he was announced as a starter for the NL All-Star team.
The 22-year-old outfielder has 17 home runs, 24 stolen bases and a .901 OPS. He’s the heavy favorite right now in the NL Rookie of the Year race, although Cincinnati Reds phenom Elly De La Cruz is charging fast.
