One of the weirdest sequences you’ll see in the 2020 MLB season took place during Monday night’s game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies at Chase Field.
With the Rockies leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Arizona’s Ketel Marte popped out to shallow left field. After making the catch, Rockies left fielder Raimel Tapia threw to first base in an attempt to double off Diamondbacks baserunner Kole Calhoun, but the ball got away. Calhoun took off for second base, but Rockies catcher Tony Wolters was backing up the play. Wolters fielded the errant throw in foul territory, and then — after dropping the ball once — threw to toward second base, but the ball hit Calhoun in the head.
The replay shows that Calhoun casually stuck his head out — while looking back at Wolters — for a soccer-esque header. In the moment, Calhoun seemingly thought he had a highly unique way to escape a rundown. However, he was ruled out anyway for what the umpires decided was interference.
Well, this was a unique sequence of events…@Dbacks pic.twitter.com/dG6KgEdzwa

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo was livid about the ruling, and had his say — while struggling to keep his mask on while arguing — before being ejected.
What a wacky, comical sequence of events.
As for the game, the Rockies went on to win 3-2.
