The Chicago Cubs made headlines on Tuesday, but not because of the MLB Postseason. No, the Cubs are at home despite a furious second-half effort this MLB season. Issues early on in the season wound up dooming Chicago, who will again not participate in the festivities. Manager David Ross received criticism from fans all year, but the Cubs don’t see it the same way.
Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer put the fire out seemingly for any talk that the team might move on from Ross. Hoyer expressed that the team believes Ross did a good job this past season.
“I was very pleased with Rossy this year,’ Hoyer said via reporter Meghan Montemurro. “If there are things we disagree with or things that we can do better, he’s very openminded to that. He’s constantly trying to improve. But, ultimately, we’re very pleased with the job he did this year.”
This opinion conflicts with a lot of people in the fanbase. There had been frustration all year from Cubs fans, who questioned Ross’s decision-making and lineup crafting. Cubs fans weren’t thrilled to read that quote from Hoyer, either.

So, it sounds like the Cubs and their fans may enter more conflict going into the 2023 offseason. The team has a chance to make it work, with rumors that they might pursue New York Mets All-Star Pete Alonso.
