Lars Nootbaar: great name, and an even better glove, at least on Wednesday night against the New York Mets.
The St. Louis Cardinals’ rookie outfielder robbed Mets slugger Pete Alonso of a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Cardinals led the Mets 8-4 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Alonso stepped to the plate with runners on first and third. On a 1-0 count, Alonso cranked a flyball to deep right-center field, and Nootbaar reached over the wall for an incredible catch to rob Alonso of a three-run homer.
Here’s how it looked on each team’s broadcast:
This is a game with major National League Wild Card implications; the Cardinals currently have a one game lead for the second Wild Card slot, while the Mets are four back.
So, that was a very meaningful play by Nootbaar as the red-hot Red Birds look to win their fifth game in a row.
