Brewers right fielder Christian Yelich is one of the most exciting players in baseball. The reigning MVP and two-time All-Star had been a huge part of the Brewers success as they entered the homestretch of the regular season in the hopes of obtaining a Wild Card spot.
In an unfortunate circumstance, Yelich fouled a pitch off his right knee in the first inning. The knock resulted in a fractured kneecap for Yelich and he’ll be out for the rest of the season.
Yelich ends his season with more homers (44) and a higher batting average (.330) than his 2018 MVP winning season. Yelich definitely would’ve been in the MVP discussion this season but that sadly may not happen.
For the Brewers, this is going to be a massive blow to their playoff hopes. Sitting 1.5 games behind the Cubs for a Wild Card spot, Yelich’s injury is definitely going to make things tougher for Milwaukee to qualify.
Listening to manager Craig Counsell, he felt bad for Yelich but said the team had no choice but to keep going.
The Brewers are in the middle of a four-game series against the Marlins. After them, they close their season with games against the Cardinals, Padres, Pirates, Reds, and Rockies.
