Here’s a prime example of the pot calling the kettle black.
Comedian, talk show host and New York Mets minority owner Bill Maher was interviewed by WOR-AM in New York where he called out Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper. Maher, who’s no stranger to throwing out controversial opinions, said the 23-year-old’s arrogance is an unattractive quality to his game.
“There are villains and there are villains,” he added. “Just something about him that is very arrogant and of course that’s important when you’re facing a 100 mile-an-hour fastball, you have to have that. But some guys, the confidence, which is the element we’re seeking, tips over into a kind of unattractive quality.”
To top his comments off, Maher called Harper a douchebag.
“He’s a (d-bag)!” Maher said. “He looks like a (d-bag)! I just don’t like him.”
I’ll let the irony sit with you for a second. Maher has made a career from being arrogant on television, so it’s a little hard to take his opinion seriously.
Maher clearly doesn’t like Harper, even though in the same interview he said he’d “love him” if he was on the Mets. Of course he would. Harper is an A+ talent. I’m sure he wouldn’t find his game “unattractive” if he wasn’t a franchise player in the same division as the team he cheers for.
Harper has made headlines recently for calling out baseball as a “tired” sport and wearing a Donald Trump-esque red hat that reads “Make Baseball Fun Again.” It’s the exactly the kind of antics you’d expect from someone like, well, Bill Maher.
