The Houston Astros baseball organization doesn’t exactly have the most sterling reputation as they head into the 2022 World Series to take on the Philadelphia Phillies. It probably isn’t going to help too much to learn that manager Dusty Baker is getting texts from Bill Cosby.
Baker was talking to reporters Friday and was discussing how many people have reached out to congratulate the longtime MLB manager about reaching the World Series when he included a name that caught the attention of a lot of people.
Once one of the most respected TV actors in the country, Cosby has been accused by approximately 60 women of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, child sexual abuse, and sexual misconduct. He was convicted in 2018 on three counts of aggravated indecent assault and sentenced to three to ten years in state prison before that decision was vacated in 2021.
While he might not be in prison and his conviction was vacated, it’s safe to say that no one does themselves any favors by admitting that they’re still friendly with Cosby. So it’s not a surprise that the Astros manager’s mention of his name garnered some strong reactions from the MLB world on Friday.

If I were dusty baker, manager of a reviled baseball team about to start the World Series, I would simply not mention any connection I had to Bill Cosby https://t.co/yA3UUjURFr

While there are certainly way more pressing reasons why this is making everyone uncomfortable, the fact that Cosby is such a known Philadelphian also makes a weird and confusing situation that much weirder and more confusing. We all just kinda wish Dusty kept that one to himself.
